Tree of Life
Nothing but breathing the air of Africa, and actually walking through it, can communicate the indescribable sensations. – William Burchell (English explorer)
Today was a full day of game viewing in Tarangire National Park, with a picnic lunch furnished by the camp for us mid-day. As I said yesterday, this park is full of birds. Everywhere you turned, there was another unusual looking bird flying in the sky, perched on a branch, or scurrying on the ground. With over 500 different species in the park, I was only able to capture a few on camera.
The other interesting thing to see in the park were the Baobab trees. These trees are some of the largest and oldest in the world, some being over 1,000 years old and can reach diameter of over 30 feet. If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you have seen a replica of a Baobab tree, their Tree of Life in the center of the park. To give you some perspective, I took a picture of one with a giraffe standing underneath with room to spare between the giraffe and the bottom of the canopy.
All in all, it was a great day of viewing the diversity of animals in the park.
