If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch the Oscar winning moving Out of Africa, I highly recommend that you do. Both the story and the movie have held up well over time. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to see how beautiful Kenya really is. Cheryl and I watched it the night before we left for Africa to get us in the mood for our trip.
The story follows the life of Karen Blixen in 20th century colonial Kenya. Her struggles to try and build a coffee plantation, a less than faithful husband, and a love affair with free-spirited, big-game hunter Denys Finch-Hatton.
This was also the backdrop to today’s adventure, as we visited the Karen Blixen Museum which is inside the original home. Many of the original furnishings are still there, as are several original paintings Karen painted of the locals. It was very interesting to see how life in the early 20th century Africa was lived.
